  • WHERE: we will meet near the entrance of Mt. Hood’s Lost Lake Resort General Store (9000 Lost Lake Road, Hood River, OR 97031)
  • COST: $75 includes 2 hour SUP rental and training, snacks, guided hike around the lake and all the logistics coordination

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I join the trip solo? Or can I invite a few of my friends to join me on the trip?

Yes and yes to both questions! Some people join Living Big trips on their own; there to make friends and see the world, and others join Living Big trips because they want to share the experience with their friends, sisters, mothers or daughters and don’t want to do any of the planning!

You’ll find that the trips are structured in a way that you’ll have a good amount of group time, but also a fair amount of independent time to explore on your own, with new friends you met in the group, or with the friends joining you on the trip.

What is the schedule of the day?

We’ll meet at 9:30AM near the entrance of the Lost Lake Resort General Store, 9000 Lost Lake Rd, Hood River, OR 97031. From here we’ll meet the group, store our lunches, backpacks and lawn chairs at our day-use campsite, then get our SUP boards and hop in the water! Your Trip Host will give you a short lesson, then you’ll set-out to explore beautiful Lost Lake and its EPIC views of Mt. Hood! You’ll be on the water for about two hours. Afterwards we’ll settle into our day-use campsite to dry off, relax and eat our lunches. After lunch we’ll hike around the lake. The hike is about 3.5 miles, is fairly flat but the terrain is uneven. The day should wrap around 4PM.

What should I wear and what should I pack?

Please plan on wearing and bringing the following:

  • It should be warm outside in early July, but the morning will likely be cool! So plan to wear and pack layers you can easily take off or put on.
  • While on the SUP board you don’t generally go in the water, unless you’re learning, in which case you might fall in! So plan to wear clothes you’re OK getting wet, such as beach clothes (swimsuit, board shorts, t-shirt, tank top, athletic shorts, rash guard, etc.) You don’t have to wear sandals on the board unless you want to; going barefoot is common!
  • Sunscreen (for your body + lips) a hat and sunglasses —– the risk of sunburn is VERY HIGH while on the water (especially on the mountain)
  • A towel you can use to dry off (if needed)
  • A change of clothing to use after we SUP and for use on the hike (including hiking shoes!)
  • If you’d like to bring your phone or camera on the SUP board, we recommend you use a waterproof case and a device that allows you to have full use of your hands (i.e. you’ll need both hands to SUP!)
  • A sack lunch (a large cooler with ice will be provided so you can store your lunch while we’re on the water) + personal snacks
  • 2-3 bottles of water
  • A backpack that can carry water, your lunch, clothing, your gear and supplies
  • A folding chair so you can sit, rest, and relax at our day use site
  • Please leave all valuables and non-essentials at home.

Is transportation to/from Lost Lake included?

Everyone is responsible for getting to/from Lost Lake. Detailed driving and parking instructions will be provided about 1-2 weeks before the adventure. Interested in carpooling? Your Trip Host can connect you with other women to make the ride a fun one! Participants are responsible for the $8 vehicle day use parking fee.

When and Where Do We Meet?

We will be meeting near the entrance of the Lost Lake Resort General Store, 9000 Lost Lake Rd, Hood River, OR 97031. Detailed driving and parking instructions will be provided about 1-2 weeks before the adventure. But in general, Lost Lake Resort is a 60-90 minute drive from Portland in the direction of Hood River. Transportation to/from Lost Lake Resort, and the $8 vehicle day use parking fee, are not included in the trip fee.

What are the health and physical fitness requirements to join on the trip?

Women and girls over the age of 16 are welcome to participate, but participation of a minor under the age of 18 requires the attendance and signature of a parental guardian. Participants should take personal responsibility to ensure they are physically able and healthy to participate. The trip is moderately strenuous and best enjoyed by anyone who is physically fit and enjoys active days. If in doubt, consult with a medical doctor to determine if you are healthy and physically able to participate.

Who is the Trip Host? And what is her role?

The role of the Trip Host is to be there to make sure everything goes as smooth as possible, even when the inevitable travel bumps come our way – such as an unexpected rainy afternoon, traffic, missing luggage, etc. But more importantly, to be a resource that will give you the space you need to really enjoy the experience. So if throughout the trip there is something your Trip Host can do to support you in this regard – please let her know. For example, if you’re not feeling well, having trouble sleeping, not getting along with someone, not satisfied with something, etc. please please share these concerns. No one needs a ‘Mother’ on this trip – that’s not our intention, but if there are small adjustments that can be made to create more space for you to enjoy the experience —- the Trip Host will see what she can do!

How do I communicate information like allergies, injuries, etc?

Is there a participant age restriction for this adventure?

What is your refund policy?

If you need to cancel your participation in the adventure, the following refund schedules applies:

  • 25% of your fee is non-refundable
  • 75% of the fee will be refunded up until June 24 at 9:30AM (PST)
  • After June 24 at 8:30AM (PST) the fee is 100% non-refundable

All cancellation requests must be made in writing and sent to your Trip Host.

What happens if it is bad weather?

The trip will happen rain or shine, but if there are extreme weather conditions that would make the trip impossible or unsafe you will receive a personal phone call from your Trip Host no later than 8PM (PST) on Friday, July 7 and you will receive a refund.

What if the trip doesn't fill up or is cancelled?

The trip requires a minimum number of participants in order to take place at the stated price, since it takes into account group discounts, shared accommodations and other factors that create cost efficiencies. Once an adequate number of participants sign up for the trip, you will be notified. If a trip does not have enough participants, or if someone unexpectedly cancels, you will be refunded your deposit or you will be given the option to pay a trip supplement to continue the trip with fewer participants. Should additional participants sign-up after you have paid the trip supplement, this fee will be refunded. Your air travel itinerary is yours to decide, and we recommend you purchase flight cancellation insurance. Living Big is not responsible for additional expenses incurred by you in preparing for the trip including non-refundable air tickets, gear, medical equipment or travelers insurance.
